Level 2 home charging at 7,200 W (a 240V/30A circuit) adds roughly 25 miles of range per hour of charging. A typical 60–75 kWh EV battery takes 8–10 hours to charge from empty, but most drivers only add 20–50 miles per night, which is 1–2 hours of Level 2 charging.

Time-of-use (TOU) electricity rates can dramatically reduce EV charging costs. Overnight off-peak rates in California, New York, and other major TOU states can be 8–12¢/kWh versus 30–40¢ during peak evening hours.
