Annual Maintenance Savings per Vehicle ($) = (Diesel/Gas Maintenance Cost ($/mile) − Electric Maintenance Cost ($/mile)) × Annual Miles per Vehicle; at $0.08 and $0.04/mile, that is (0.08 − 0.04) × 25,000 = $1,000/yr, reflecting EVs' far fewer moving parts and regenerative braking.

Fleet Payback Period (years) = Total Upfront Cost Premium ÷ Total Annual Fleet Savings — $300,000 ÷ $48,750 ≈ 6.15 years, the point at which cumulative fuel and maintenance savings have repaid the full upfront cost of the switch. The model uses flat per-mile fuel and maintenance costs and excludes residual value differences, financing costs, and electricity demand charges at the depot, all of which can shift real-world payback.
